To contribute to the improvement of eye health in developing countries.
This will be achieved by funding trained eye professionals to travel
to developing countries to improve eye health. The Fund focuses on
funding Glasgow based health professionals but applications from
elsewhere in the UK will also be considered.
It is envisaged that the following types of aid will be eligible for funding:
• Cataract surgery camps
• Prevention and treatment of trachoma
• Community health and education to prevent eye disease
• Any other appropriate eye treatments
• A research project or a clinical attachment of a Glasgow based Ophthalmologist in a developing country to increase knowledge/ improve understanding of eye care in developing countries
• Passing on skills and knowledge to local Ophthalmologists in developing countries
